David Childers
David Childers of Spring, Texas is one of America's most celebrated knife makers. "I started making knives in shop class in high school in Victoria, Texas back in 1963." David played football at The University of Houston during the mid-1960's and was a member of the team that played in the first game in the Astrodome.
David's love of the outdoors has inspired him to follow his true passion of creating something special each time he sits down to design a custom masterpiece. His early works started as gifts for family and close friends. As he perfected his craft, friends from his deer lease began making requests. Soon after, he began learning from Ruffin Johnson and Glenn Hemperley to take his skills to the highest level.

Childers is a true custom craftsman. His knives begin with raw bar stock and he uses the stock removal method on a 60 grit belt, 8 or 10 inch wheel to grind the metal. He uses 440C stainless steel, D-2 high carbon steel or increaslingly, highly figured Damascus steel. Once he has crafted a blade, he then begins the process of crafting the perfect complementary handle.
As an avid hunter and outdoorsman, most of Childers' knives are "working" knives. His designs are crafted with the outdoorsman in mind from his one man shop in the back of his home. The building is situated amid a grove of trees and the interior walls are decorated with blade templates, scribbled notes and deer antlers.
You may be lucky enought to find David at a Houston area gun and knife show exhibiting his most recent custom designs. Or, you can contact him directly to discuss having him build you your very own custom masterpiece.
